Technique: undisclosed background
The footer names Tom Coyne. He has been writing against Jeffco's capital program on Medium since 2020. His wife, Susan Miller, served on the Jeffco school board from December 2019 to December 2023; she did not seek re-election. Her term covered the years the capital program this site attacks was underway, and none of the five current members who referred 5A and 5B to the 2026 ballot served alongside her. The site mentions none of this history.
The site's own footer, captured September 27, 2026, reads: "Not Yet, Jeffco is a citizen campaign opposed to Jefferson County Public Schools Ballot Propositions 5A and 5B, compiled by Tom Coyne, a former private sector CEO and CFO, and former member of the Jefferson County District Accountability Committee." That self-description is accurate as far as it goes. What it leaves out is his current seat as Treasurer of a charter school network's governing board (see his charter role) and the board history above.
In fairness, the relationship itself is no secret: Coyne has disclosed it in his published op-ed bios for years, including in the Colorado Sun and on Boardhawk in 2022. So the issue is not concealment of the marriage. It is what notyetjeffco.org's own readers are not told: that its author's household spent four years inside the district fights the site presents as an outsider's discoveries.
The site's "Citizens Report," labeled an independent analysis, is in fact Coyne's own compilation of articles he has written about Jeffco's capital program since 2020. A site built largely from one person's own prior writing, without telling readers about his household's years inside the board it criticizes, is not the independent watchdog it presents itself as.
Correction (Sept 27, 2026): an earlier version of this page said Coyne's wife "sits" on the Jeffco school board and called the relationship a concealed conflict of interest. Susan Miller left the board in December 2023, before the 2026 measures were referred, and Coyne has disclosed the marriage in his published writing. The entry has been rewritten accordingly. A claim about his party affiliation has also been removed pending a verifiable source.
